Faux Depp, Kay Metz, Jerry Davis, Crystal Walk, David Walk

Johnny Depp, Kay Metz, former Lion Jerry Davis, 1st VDG Crystal and I have something important in common. 

A few short years back when Past District Governor Kay was District Governor Kay he hosted the 19F Conference at the Red Lion near the Mall in the Tri-Cities. Being a brand new Lion, I knew nothing of what transpired at a District Conference but I was old enough to know that all of the Federal and State Government Conferences I had attended for my work were very boring and expensive.

Jerry Davis was the Treasurer of my home club the College Place Lions. He was going to the conference and, as an encouragement to his new Lions Crystal and I, offered to pick up some of the conference fees for us from the club’s admin account. 

Lion Crystal, my son Carl and I arrived at the hotel just in time for Pirate Fun night, nautically themed because of Governor Metz’s lifelong association with boats. Crystal reached into a bag and pulled out my costume which was a Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean, bandanna, dreadlocks and eye patch.  I made a ridiculous pirate!

Nevertheless, I won a 2nd place certificate for the Johnny Depp get up Crystal had provided and in spite of my misgivings actually enjoyed being around Lions from other clubs. I have enjoyed Lions Conferences and Conventions since that time and treasure the memories and the things I have learned that have helped me along the Lions Path.

Seasoned Lions, encourage the younger members of your club to go to the District 19F Spring Conference this March 10th and 11th. Help them along the path. Go with them and show them the ropes. New Leadership has to be cultivated and grown.
